STUNNING VIEW OF NEW YORK

View of New York overlooking Union Square, published by Parisian firm Lemercier & Cie.  Extremely rare to the market.  Patterned after a similar view by Bachmann printed in the late 1840's, shows the fountain in Union Square and a slightly elongated view to the south of Manhattan Island to the Battery.

Numerous buildings, churches, factories, and streetcars.  Steam powered and tall masted schooners serve the bustling trade of this rapidly growing world capital.  Close examination will be rewarded with delightfully engraved pedestrians, ladies strolling with parasols, carriages, equestrians and groups socializing, all with shadows suggesting a mild and somewhat idyllic mid-morning at the end of the nineteenth century.  Engraved just prior to the advent of steel and its legions of disciples about to erect the multi-story leviathans that changed this view forever.
